New trainers 🥳

Yesterday I'd convinced myself I've got a stress fracture in my left foot and may have to defer the Outlaw to 2024
I stayed in all day, resubscribed to Prime and basically did nothing except baked some breakfast muffins and did a tray bake of veggies and quorn (both delicious)

I then decided maybe I was okay so went to tri club at the track and ran 4x 500m then 3x 500m

Today Anabel took me to Alexandra Sports, Winchester so I could finally spend my birthday voucher on some new trainers. Saucony again and they're lovely. The chap reckoned my trail shoes that I've been running in are fine but would be worth getting a new pair as there's not much 'life' left in them.

Felt so much better as my old trail trainers are fine and I haven't over trained so reckon my foot is just bruised. Training for a big event is stressful as there's always that panic that you'll get injured. I did though check and if I need to defer I can as long as it's no later than 37 days before the event.

Basically I'll need to do a body MOT after the Swashbuckler half IM on the 11th June and decide if I'll be able to do the 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride and then run a marathon all in under 17 hours   6 weeks later on the 30th July 🤞

So what have I done today training wise today on day 42 / week 6?

1.25 hours of Hurtbox - me on the stationary bike chatting to Suzanne and Jenny while YouTube 'cycling' in the Alps 😂

0.5 of fitness Pilates
0.5 of stretch
0.5 run
1.0 STC swim

Grand total of training today = 3.75 hours
And just under 20,000 steps

I now need to sort out my Just Giving page for SIBs who I'll be raising money for 🥰

Tuesday 28 March 2023

Day 39 - 124 days to go!!!

Week 6 = medium

So far nothing Monday
STC AGM today
My only saving grace is a 40minute daily bike ride commute which includes the steep incline of Church Road.
I have got to get more focused

Still loads of time and I am on schedule but each week takes me a week closer to the Ironman
It is now 17 weeks till the Outlaw

Day 34 - feeling strong

As we weren't sure what the weather was going to do today we decided to each ride at our respective homes and discord together instead

We probably could have cycled outside but it was really windy so maybe just as well we went with indoor cycling.
I did 2 hours.
Crikey - dripping with sweat, really pleased to get 2 hours of bike training in the bag

Made Dahl
Made chicken with roasted vegetables

Coach jenny gave me a lift to STC at the track for the monthly hills session.

5x sprint 30secs up the middle hill at the sports centre with 2min rest x3 times.

Needless to say I am tired but I'm also feeling so strong 💪

Tuesday 21 March 2023

Day 32 - 9k run

Really easy 9k run in 75mins
9min run
1min walk

Felt great
So pleased I made it out the door

Monday 20 March 2023

Last day at WSA

What a fabulous 10months at WSA student hub. Loved it but so glad to be going back to Southampton. This is a key turning point in my Lizzie goes long training xx

Sunday 19 March 2023

Day 30 end of week 4

I'm certainly getting stronger
I just need to up my cycling and do some S&C

So far so good 🥳

Thursday 16 March 2023

Day 27 - a Miche massage 🤗

Neck has been bothering me - I think it's because I've upped my cycling. Decided to book a Miche massage. Utterly fabulous. Also very timely as Miche able to sort out right arm muscles that were  a bit crunchy.

Last day of my 4 day mini break and I'm well into week 4 of my training

Katherine was impressed with my packed lunch - this is my typical packed lunch when at work - it sees me though the long 12 hour shifts.

We also did a 5k time trial at the track with tri club this evening, I wanted to be 35minutes or less

I took it steady, didn't hammer it but made sure I was running at a good sustainable pace

Smashed it
34.47
Delighted.

Basically the 4 day mini break of my week has been marvellous in terms of having a wonderful time and for my #LizzieGoesLong training.

It's a rest day tomorrow- 1st day of the 4 on work week. Let's see how days 2-4 go - so Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

I'll keep you posted 😂🥳

Sunday 12 March 2023

End of week 3

Hopefully as the days get warmer and lighter I'll manage to train either before or after my long work days 🤞

Wednesday 8 March 2023

Day 19 / week 3

So far so good
Bedding down good habits
Bedding down doing what the plans says

And happy international women's day 2023

Monday 6 March 2023

Start of week 3

Today I managed 30mins in the pool
Did 100m pull, 200m swim, 200m pull, 100m swim, 200m pull and 200m swim
1000m in 25mins
I'd be delighted if I can sustain this speed at the Outlaw at the end of July 🤗
Would equate to a 1:40 swim time

Then yoga with Adele

Followed by tea and cake at John Lewis with Abel and a walk / cuppa catch up with Caroline

Another top day

Sunday 5 March 2023

Day 16 - end of week 2

What a day!!!

62km bike ride
Mad dash home for quick shower then jumped on my town bike and shot up to Piecarumba for a late lunch
I'm now watching the Hans Zimmer documentary that I recorded the other day and I feel awesome!

Who knows if I'll be tired / sore tomorrow when swimming / gym / yoga / afternoon tea and evening drinks but right now my body feels strong and fabulous 🥳

Plus I'm excited for week 3
I've identified my rest day for the next 8 days of training - each block includes my 4 day mini break plus my 4 days of 8am-8pm of work.

I've also identified the work days when I'll be up at 6am to enable me to get to the gym or a swim before work, or to cycle to Wide Lane and catch the train to Winchester from Southampton Airport Parkway so I get some cheeky bike rides in.

#LizzieGoesLong is starting to take shape

Will also look at starting to get my fundraising in place for SIBs over the next few days 🤗

Saturday 4 March 2023

Day 15 - plan has been made

The 1st day of the start of each work rotation will be a rest day. So train 7 days, rest 1 but the 4 days when I'm not at work will be more intense than the 3 days I'm at work

When at work I will get up at 6am (not 1st day which is a rest day) and go to the gym, swim or an extended cycle to work.

I'm feeling very positive about this 🤗

Friday 3 March 2023

Day14

Yep, def need to rethink how to manage training and the 8-8pm shift

Will try 7:15am in the gym before the 8pm start at Highfield tomorrow morning
Will cycle to wide lane for the remaining sessions at WSA

Then once back in Southampton it should be a lot easier

How do people manage to train when commuting?? I have so much respect for them.

Thursday 2 March 2023

Need a rethink

Training after work when at WSA = x2 days of epic fail

Will need to rethink how to manage training over the next couple of weeks when in Winchester before I head back to Southampton 🤔

Wednesday 1 March 2023

Couldn’t do it!

Was supposed to go swimming this being 8-9pm but had a splitting headache and just couldn't do it.

Will have an early night

Looks like swimming after a long day at work doesn't actually work. Will be back in Southampton within a couple of weeks so won't be able to swim after work from then - will explore  7am swims instead 🤔
