Laying down some foundations for the next six months...

Night 2 of no mobile in my bedroom. Alarm clock sorted so I can't use the old "but my phone's my alarm clock" excuse.

It's also nearly bedtime - as long as I don't read too much of Dawn French's autobiography it could be lights out by 11pm.

Today I did my training plan for June and July which will take me up to the start of my marathon training starting August 1st. June is mainly tri club swimming and running, RR10s, Hurtbox, LRR new strength and conditioning session, the Polsedon Lacey 10k and marshalling the Lordshill 10k. I'm also umming and aaahring about the Solstice runway 5k at 6am on Sunday 26th June. I'm very tempted.

Plus I do need to try and get a grip on my chocolate habit. Let's just say a Mars bar, a packet of Walker's cheese and onion crisps and a large bar of Cadbury's were all consumed by yours truly today. I'm weak and I love snacking :(

Tubbytastic lizzie lou needs to get a handle on this though as I currently have about ten items of clothing that don't make me look like "the only gay in the village".

Siiiigh.

Maybe this is why I'm tired...

http://iawr-connect.com/uncategorized/why-women-over-40-need-more-rest-than-younger-women-runners-or-male-runners/

I've been pretty tired this month. And then I looked at what I'd been doing since the first RR10 20/4 - finally back from injury :)

20/4 RR10 4.3miles 56.21
21/4 cycled to lakeside to watch the first HOWL open water session
23/4 coach Huw's usual gentle killer of a swim set session.
24/4 Vik and I cheered the Southampton half and 10k runners

Then I had my weird temperature of 102 24 hour thingie virus so no tri club 25/4

26/4 partied in London with Matt, Luc and Tom.
27/4 day off. Royal Parks with Nessie then impromptu dinner party with the boys in Pimlico.
I did rest 28/4!
29/4 prosecco ahoy with work chums in ocean village
30/4 back up to London for Matt and Tom's suprise bday meal
1/5 home and early night.
2/5 Winchester sprint triathlon - awesome fun :).
400m 9.36.29, T1 7.26.24, 24k 1:26.14, T2 2.33.06, 5k 43.17.96. Total = 2:28.57
Loads slower than last year but bloody loved it. Then platform tavern for lunch then afternoon tea at P&K's with the gang.

USA 5-9th May :)

And then my training really stepped up a gear..

14/5 tri club, cycled to weston, ran to Victoria country park and back, cycled home and collapsed in front of the eurovision song contest.
15/5 cycled to bucklers hard and marshalled the swashbuckler middle distance triathlon then cycled home. 3.5 hours of total cycling.
16/5 hurtbox turbo session - burnt 450 odd calories in the hour!
17/5 cycled to Victoria country park for roast beef.
18/5 work leaving do.
19/5 ran 36 mins and admired the huge new ship harmony of the sea.
20/5 hurtbox session - burnt over 500 calories this time.
21/5 tri club then up to London.
22/5 lovely walk with Jules and the kids.
23/5 tri club
24/5 Rest!!!!
25/5 still knackered so had roast beef.
26/5 seeing chums
27/5 hurtbox - burnt 600 calories!!!  I rode until I was totally empty. Great session. Cycled home.

And now, Saturday 28/5, I'm reading about how women over forty need more rest and recovery than the men or younger women.

I really need to do this!
And also not read jack reacher thrillers on my kindle till way to late o'clock.

Operation sort out my training and ensuring I get plenty of sleep and eat well is on!!!

Oh, did I mention I've signed up for the Portsmouth coastal marathon 18/12 - six hour cut off due to the tides. Eeeeeek.

Friday 27 May 2016

Hurtbox session number three. Awesome. Shattered.

In pj's, showered, snacked on peanut butter and marmite on toast and now catching up on ncis. Utterly exhausted!!!!

Great fun.
Well... Some bits were, some bits were a right slog. I actually ran out of gas by the end. I literally had nothing left in the tank. James had to reduce my ftp or is it ftw.

Anyways, I started at 135 then it went up to 145 as the last session was a bit easier than it should have been.

Today I started at 145, went up to 150 and then went down to 135 when I totally tanked. Aah well. Still a great workout.

600 calories burnt in an hour!!
Excellent :)

A recap of May 2016

May 2016 has been a great month for training. It's like I'm back. Well back ish anyway...

Here's a whistle stop tour of the last 3 weeks :)

Monday 2/5/16 - The Winchester Sprint Triathlon
Brilliant, brilliant fun.

Yes i was practically last but because we all start in different waves you have absolutely no idea where you've come until the official results are published.

My unofficial timings:
400m / 16 lengths of the pool = 9.36.29
T1 = 7.26.24
I couldn't decide what to wear on the bike course so spent way to long thinking about it while eating a banana and then realised I'd only put on one glove so had to nip back for the left one.
24k Cycle = 1:26.14 (the bluebells as per usual were beautiful)
T2 = 2.23.06 - included hugging Lou who'd come along to support :)
5k Run = 43.17.96 felt great just very slow because really unfit.

Loved it. Wonderful to be back participating, seeing friends and having a fab time.
Then Paul from Tri club gave me a lift back to Southampton where me, Lou and the Smiths had lunch at the Platform Tavern. Great fun.

5th-9th May - long weekend to Glen Rock New Jersey to see cousin Ruth, Kevin and the girls.

Then operation fit and healthy pretty much restarted on Saturday 14th May 2016

Tri club swim session then Tudor House for tea and tea cakes
Cycled to Weston Shore then ran 51.19mins to the Police training college in Hamble to cheer on the No Limits charity rounders for an hour. Ran back to bike 40.08mins. Collapsed in front of TV watching Eurovision.

Sunday 15th May - cycled to Bucklers Hard, New Forest 6:45am-8:15am then marshalled the Swashbuckler middle distance triathlon (water station) 8:45-12:45pm. Bacon bap, chatting to chums, sit down in the pub with Suzanne, Richard, Matt and all the dogs then cycled back via Lyndhurst 2:45pm-4:45pm. Got home, showered then ate the contents of my fridge.

Monday 16th May - over chlorinated the water at the Quays so no tri club swimming. Hurtbox instead with Suzanne and Richard. Brilliant fun.

Tuesday 17th May - cycled to Netley for supper then back to Woolston for a pub quiz with Ita and her mate.

Wednesday 18th May - decided it'd be too wet and thundery for the RR10 so drank white wine spritzers at Holly's work leaving do instead :)

Thursday 19th May - went for a run after work 34.15.55 and admired the huge new cruise ship Harmony of the Sea.

Friday 20th May - a killer of a Hurtbox session. LOVED IT

Saturday 21st May - Coach Huw's usual Saturday morning tri club swim set that lures you into thinking oooh this is a lovely set, nice and gentle before you realise he's actually gently killing you so you leave the pool barely able to talk let along walk. Kinda the perfect coached session. Rather like the Hurtbox sessions

Worked in the afternoon then up to London for a fab weekend with Jules, Charlie and the kids.

Home now.
Really rather tired.
But so so soooooooo utterly over the moon about finally feeling as if i'm back training properly.

HOORAH!!!

Sunday 1 May 2016

What a brilliant week of wine - red and white :)

Hmmmm.
Okay, maybe not the best week of training for tomorrow's Winchester sprint triathlon but it has been a brilliant week.

Sunday watched and whooped the Southampton half marathon and 10k with Vik. Loved it. Then home to shiver in my arm chair with a temperature of 102 degrees :(

Monday didn't go to tri club.
Tuesday up to Angel to drink red wine as Tom was over from mpls and hadn't seen Matt and Luc for ages. Caravan in Kings cross. Lovely.
Wednesday was a lovely walk in the Royal Parks with Nessie then popped in to see the boys in Pimlico. Impromptu dinner party and shed loads of white wine :)
Thursday - was impressed with my ability to work from 9:30-6:30pm. Needless to say I didn't go for a run or a cycle.
Friday - private view at Red Hot Press, got my bike back from bike guy (yay, I have breaks again) then prosecco at Banana Wharf with work chums.
Saturday - I really wanted to go swimming but I really couldn't get out of bed. Then back up to London for Matt and Tom's suprise bday meal at Frederick's - YUM. And shed loads of red wine and champagne, crawling into bed at 4am.

And now I'm on the train heading back to Southampton feeling knackered and a bit hungover. Hoorah for triathlons at stupid o'clock on a Mayday morning. Tomorrow is going to be brilliant fun. I just hope I fit into my tri suit :)

Needless to say I'm never drinking again and will be hugely focused on my training for the rest of the season.

My ankle is fine. Be interesting to see how it manages tomorrow's race x
