Swansea half marathon - what a fabulous race. It's out and back but you run along the road to the Mumbles then turn round and run back to Swansea all along the boardwalk so seven miles of sea and sand. Quite wonderful. First five miles lovely steady pace 12min miles, plenty of water, plenty of whooping. Met mates at the turn point, bit of chatting, had a cheese sarnie, half a chocolate bar and a little carton of apple juice, took some pics, uploaded to Facebook then headed back to Swansea. Was so lovely to see them. Plus I like to stop and chat when there are kids so they feel a part of the event!!
Run back was fab, ice pops at mile seven, loads of enthusiastic marshals and that wonderful sea view. Feet though started to get sore and legs were getting sore so a lot more walking was involved from about mile 9/10. Also realised I wasn't going to get a PB and go sub 3 hours (did 3:14) so slowed right down and did more chatting and picture taking.
Ooh and they had a proper finishing shoot with signs "200m to go". Well, as most of you know I absolutely love a finishing shoot - arms aloft and much whooping and cheering pretty much from the 200m sign to the finish line/arch. Brilliant brilliant fun!! Hugely recommend - fast (apparently!!) flat (yep) with a never ending sea view x
