Tuesday 28/3/17 - the first lordshill magic mile of the season 9.04.67. Due to not really chatting to anyone during the run I did a great time! Then I was one of the timekeepers :)
Sunday 9/4/17 - the Brighton marathon - yikes, this was a lot tougher than I thought it would be. Yes it was really hot but I had my STC buff/ruff which I dunked in the water cups so it kept me nicely cooled. I was thinking I'd go sub six hours, I felt awesome. And then my feet got hot and started to hurt. After my mile 14 picnic lunch with chums - so wonderful to eat something solid! I then struggled. I'd done 14 miles in 3hours but the next 12 miles took me FOUR hours!!! Just felt like I was running barefoot on pebbles. Awful. Still love it but it was tough and hurt a lot. The finish line was even more special :)
My recovery though was fab. I'm def getting stronger and fitter.
Wednesday 19/4/17 - RR10 #1 at Victoria country park. I bloody love the RR10s so was super excited to be running. Felt great. Really strong. Chatted to loads of chums and thanked every marshal. At 25mins my left knee felt niggerly. Bit sore. So decided to call it a night as running Sunday so cheered and whooped everyone finishing. I think I love spectating just as much as running.
Sunday 23/4/17 - I finally got to run the Southampton half marathon. Did London in 2015, just out of the moon boot in 2016 so 2017 would be my first Southampton half. Loved it. So many running / tri buddies to chat to before the start. Then settled at the rear of the pack and had a very gentle start. Felt fine. Chatted, whooped at each mile marker and thought - brilliant, this is going to be awesome. By mile four my left knee was sore :( aaah well, I just took it slowly, walked a bit, chatted to everyone, thanked everyone and basically had a fantastic time. It just hurt a lot more than it should have. Boo. But that did make the finish even more special. Bloody hell - lets just say when I screamed out MILE THIRTEEN and whooped loudly it was like I'd woken up the crowd. We then had the best time as I jogged to the finish. Brilliant brilliant fun. Plus I had the added bonus of tri club buddies Suzanne and Aaron at the finish cheering me home. I really love my triathlon club.
And now?
Well I'm tired, sore, knee still hurts a bit and I am hobbling about as if I'm about twenty years older. But I'm sure by tomorrow I'll be fine or at least nearly fine.
Just got to figure out what to do about my knee. I reckon it's the IT band - a classic case of runners knee. Bummer. Good job I don't have the Winchester sprint triathlon next Monday then the swashbuckler middle distance tri 21/5. Oh wait...
